This is great. The test on brain to design is monsters created by children. That's perfect. When I was a kid, we could always dream up better monsters than the ones depicted in the movies. Now kids are actually getting to do it.

Today's younger generation is much better than the 40s-plus crowd when it comes to using computers and cell phones, but imagine how fast the gap between young and old will grow when this technology becomes widely available. Kids will know how to use it and everyone else will be virtually shut out.

Charles, you are right. The new generation kids are very fast in learning and adapting things to their life. One simple example is my kid, which is 30 months old operates my laptop for watching Mickey Mouse and other cartoon clips. Now a days she is operating TV also for the same.

I believe it, my design. Kids grasped capacitive touch technology faster than anyone, even the people who designed it.

If older people pass on this, it will be their loss. I don't think I missed anything by not jumping on texting. But this may be a different story.

I agree, Rob. I hope this technology gets good enough to use in the next few years so I can try it.

Charles, I totally agree with you there is definitely a very big gap of adoptig technology between youngsters and Old age people. Testing any new technology , taking feedbacks , asking for hands on definitely youth will be the best option because they are more open to changes and new things they have fresh and active brains and it functions more appropriately and wisely as compared to elder people.

According to me if this technology flourish it wil really be a boom in medical sciences as well. It will to read the brain of people who cant speek, People in Comma, suffering throught strokes and so on . Getting brain informations of all the above mentioned patients will definitely be an advancement in technology.

Rob, now CGI is so good that the sci-fi/fantasy movies are showing us stuff even better than we can dream up.

You're right, I can't imagine a movie without some form of CGI.  It will be interesting if this experiment with children strengthens concentration skills so as to more readily create objects.  Very intriguing.

Rob, the real nightmare will just be starting when this tcnology is used for marketing products to kids. I see that as probably the first application. If that is not disturbing then nothing is.

Excellent point William K. I hadn't thought of that. There was a Twilight Zone that dealt with that, a kid with the ability to think changes in reality.

I think this article is mainly meant about brain mapping, which is still in childhood stages for medical science. So far many studies had done with respect to brain mapping and emotional thinking. Recently, I heard that some other forms of computational simulation study is happening with respect to emotion using grid computing, by a group of doctors in China.

Mydesign is right, there have been many studies about brain mapping, often with different goals or studying different aspects of the brain. I saw a news item on this one in one of those British online newspapers where you expect to see headlines like "Aliens Stole My Baby," so wasn't sure if this was real.

Connect that device to the average male college students' head, and you could not legally publish a photograph of the final printed object.

Better or lazier?

notarboca's mention of CGI makes me wonder: does more detailed visuals such as better CGI also help us create more detailed images in our minds--or does it make us lazier? In any case, it will be interesting to see if these experiments actually work to giver people the necessary feedback to learn how to create more detailed images and objects.

I think these 3D printing services are going to go the way of the dinosaurs over time. Especially when the technology becomes more affordable.
