Pneumatics technology has been used in medical devices for many years, but now there are significant technology advances that are producing finer proportional control than in the past. Pneumatic systems are also working on portability issues, and solutions for low power designs.

I am surprised by the pneumatic application.  Although light, they tend to lack the power density required for many portable applications.
