TURCK's
new
BL Compact
system is a modular I/O solution for collecting a variety of signals in a
single, rugged node on a network.
"It
is an encapsulated device that is used to gather a mixture of input/output
signals on a machine. Because it is IP69K-rated, it can withstand environmental
exposure," says Karen Keller, strategic marketing manager, TURCK
Inc.
The I/O connection enabled by this device is "contrary to the hard-wiring of all
devices back to the control cabinet. Junction boxes provide similar functions
to that of the BL Compact, but a standard junction box can only accept one type
of signal."
Rather
than routing all signals through a control cabinet, this device makes it
possible to obtain analog, digital, thermocouple, RTD, serial, RFID or a
mixture of signal types in a compact, machine-mountable device over
EtherNet/IP, DeviceNet, CANopen and Profibus. The device's small size and
IP69K-rated housing allows it to be placed on the machine closer to the signals.
The
BL Compact system can be customized so that as devices are added to an existing
network, signals can be gathered on the machine without adding a separate
enclosure. The ability to connect up to 16 devices drastically reduces the time
it takes to run wires for each device back to the control cabinet, as well as
reducing the potential for wiring errors.
The
BL
Compact system is currently available with
four, eight or 16 ports in an environmentally hardened package rated for IP68
and IP69k protection. M8 or M12 connectors for bus communication and auxiliary
power facilitate installation into any new or existing application.
