TWO-WAY VEHICLE CONTROL SYSTEM

This two-way Remote Keyless Entry (RKE) key fob is a wireless control system with an integrated transceiver that can start the engine, change the cabin temperature, and get feedback from the vehicle regarding security and other status at a range of up to 650 ft. Frequency ranges vary in other regions of the world but RKE transceivers normally operate at 434 MHz in the U.S. Lear engineers incorporated a proprietary antenna design to achieve the long range with a patented technique to preserve battery life. They chose RF instead of infrared for its superior performance in range and jamming resistance.
ULTRATHIN QUADBAND GSM CELL PHONE

Small in format, this executive-type cell phone is big on features, including both external and internal displays, messaging capability such as pictures with text and sound, and quad-band (GSM 850/900/1800/1900 MHz) operation. The unit's thin profile (a mere 0.54 inch) is made possible by System On Chip (SOC) integration. For multimode, multiband operation, Motorola engineers chose Freescale Semiconductor's chip set that consists of the MC13777 transceiver, which is only 1 mm thick and the DSP56631 dual-core baseband IC, which includes the microcontroller, DSP, and all related peripherals including on-board memories. WIFI NETWORK FINDER
PCTEL WiFi Seeker (http://rbi.ims.ca/4386-546). The WiFi Seeker determines both the availability and quality of a wireless IEEE-802.11b/g network in a package small enough to attach to a computer bag. An internal directional dipole antenna locates the general location of the access point. The unit has built-in RF filtering to avoid interference and false readings from microwave ovens and cordless phones, but can detect 802.11 signals up to 300 ft away. If a network is present, four LEDs provide a stepped indication of the relative signal strength in about 0.5 sec.
WIRELESS FLOWMETER
Wellspring Aqura Wireless Flowmeter (http://rbi.ims.ca/4386-547). Monitoring daily water consumption is simplified with ZigBee-based wireless meters. The readings can be automatically collected from the ZigBee network several times per day, uploaded to a data and billing center, and then made available to users on the Web. With the wireless, battery-operated unit permanently attached to the flow sensor, radio transmissions lasting less than 2 sec can be sent up to 100 ft. Based on ZigBee's minimal power consumption, batteries can last four years. Wellspring engineers picked Ember's ZigBee-Ready EM2420 radio chip to provide the communication link.
