American Power Tool Company has recently developed a power tool for installing gaugeable fittings across a variety of tubing sizes. The Aeroswage provides users with the final nut-to-body gap for tightening swages and is considerably faster at 12 sec per fastener than tightening by hand, which can take between 3-5 mins.
“Basically what we wanted to do was make a tool where you could insert that fastener, push a button and have absolutely no torque reaction to the operator whatsoever, and then meanwhile, back at the ranch, document that it was all done exactly right,” says David Wilson Jr., president of American Power Tool Company.
The Aeroswage’s documenting ability scans fittings to make sure all the parts are present and provides detailed information on how many jobs have been completed, who used the tool, when it was used and if the job was performed to the correct parameters. This information is stored to the on-board memory located in the handle, which has a USB connector to transfer the data to a computer for storage and evaluation.
The Aeroswage prevents torque reaction through the use of an integrated nut holding feature called the switchblade and uses a socket set to reach a range of fitting types. The sockets range from 1/16-inch tubing to 1/2-inch tubing and are available with metric equivalents. The Aeroswage can also handle fastening at elbows and crosses and doesn’t require calibration. “We calibrate it one time and that’s taken care of because we use a totally unique system of measuring the final nut to body gap being applied to the fastener,” says Wilson.
According to Wilson, pricing information for the Aeroswage is not available, but the tool will most likely be available as a rental service provided by American Power Tool Company.

The Aeroswage automatically fastens swages and can hook up to a computer to transfer data collected from the job. |
