Laser measurement
The Opto NCDT 1400 Series Laser is said by its manufacturer to be the smallest CCD technology laser in the world. Signal conditioning is performed in the laser head, rather than in a separate controller, and the laser unit is self contained so it can be replaced individually. The product's ME-CCD technology is said to allow for inexpensive, non-precise fixturing up to 308 from perpendicular. "This is a small, reasonably priced, adaptive, total measuring system," says Carnegie Mellon's Lawrence Cartwright. "It has very good static and dynamic resolution and can be used in numerous measuring environments. With a sampling rate of 1 kHz, it has the potential for providing accurate deflections in low-frequency cyclic testing."

Photoelectric
sensors
Because the housing of WORLD-BEAM™photoelectric sensors fits most mounting requirements, the 1.38×0.59×1.22-inch devices can replace hundreds of sensor styles and designs. A 0.7-inch threaded nose lets the sensor replace 0.7-inch-diameter barrel sensors; the standard mounting hole configuration lets it directly replace numerous nonthreaded rectangular sensors. Specs include: 67-ft opposed-mode sensing range, 19.8-ft retroreflective-mode range, and regular and proximity modes with ranges up to 18 inches.

Soft
starter
By using 24V dc control power, Intelligent Technologies (IT) Soft Starters are intrinsically safer than 120V ac models, simplify compliance to safety standards, and offer more reliable interfacing with PLC and distributed control logic systems. The small solid-state device integrates the bypass contactor and overload relay functions, which eliminates the need for separate hard-wired devices. Control features include kick start, which provides an adjustable pulse of up to 550% current or 85% torque for up to 2.0 seconds, and soft stop, which ramps down motor voltage for an extended coast to rest.

Internet-enabled instrumentation
iSeries controllers, panel meters, transmitters, and signal conditioners connect directly to an Ethernet network via an RJ-45 connector and can send and receive data in standard TCP/IP packets. The firmware that handles Ethernet connectivity and serving web pages is embedded in a device's microprocessor, enabling a direct network connection without a computer. These instruments enable users to monitor and control a process through a web browser from anywhere in a facility or anywhere in the world.

Temperature
controller
A bus-based temperature controller, the MLC9000 interfaces with PLCs or HMIs to integrate temperature control and machine control over a single interface. It interfaces with the HMI either directly or via PLC registers. This scheme eliminates a maze of panel-mounted controllers individually wired for each loop, and lets controller deliver single-loop performance. Communication is via open buses or through a serial port.
