November 10-16, NEC, Birmingham, England
Many of the world's biggest companies will be exhibiting at Manufacturing Week '98, which is co-located with Computers in Manufacturing (CIM) and Tooling and Vehicle Engineering & Design. This year Manufacturing Week introduces APME-Automation, and Production and Maintenance Equipment '98; and relaunches DES-The Design Engineering Show.
††"APME is an event for the needs of the modern factory, while DES will focus on design excellence in the UK," says Joh Stuttard, exhibition director. "Both provide specific technology areas relative to their industry sectors."
The DES is a center for new product launches from the British industry. To serve attendees' needs, it has been divided into tightly targeted areas including:
Electrical & electronic systems & equipment
Companies exhibiting at the show include Robert Bosch, Crouzet, Ciba, Simplatroll, and IMI Norgren, one of the world's largest fluid power companies. Other high-profile exhibitors include Laser Lines, Varimetrix, and Transmission Developments, all of which provided the drives for the robot in the film "Lost In Space." APME exhibitors include Mannesmann Dematic, ADM Automation, and Bosch.
In addition to these changes and additions, the Industrialists' Summit will take a different format. The theme for the Wednesday, November 11th event is "21st Century Manufacturing--Will Britain Still be a Player?" Some 300 senior decision-makers and opinion-formers will form a live talkback-style debate forum led from the platform by five or six key industry figureheads. The goal: to seek answers from the panel through questions relating to issues facing British industry. Such issues will center around monetary union, interest rates, regulation, global economies, the Asian crisis, and inward investment.
Manufacturing Week is organized by Reed Exhibition Companies Ltd. If you would like further information on the show visit their website at http://www.manweek.co.uk†
Mini-ISO 26-mm V44/V45 valves conform to ISO 15407-1/VDMA 24 563 specifications and are for applications including materials handling, assembly automation, machine tools, and automotive and textile manufacturing. Other products include an AS-Interface FRL unit fitted with sensors that remotely advise the operator when to change the filter and when the lubricator is low on oil. The company also provides technology that uses sensors to remotely diagnose faults in a fieldbus system. The system could identify a broken valve on a machine in a remote site and, by dialing into the Internet, alert a PC station anywhere in the world that the valve needs replacing.

Model 1500D fluid dispensing system fills transformers, connectors, and heating elements with epoxy from the bottom up. The system uses air pressure and timed deposits to dispense the correct volume of fluid into the part's base without air bubbles. Model 1500D includes the dispenser, barrel reservoirs, and precision dispense tips, which are up to 2 inches long for reaching deep into cavities. The system features a microprocessor-based timer and user-friendly "teach" function for programming the deposit time for the correct fill amount.

Rapid prototyping materials
Vacuum grade materials for the UK market complete the existing Parts In MinutesTM polyurethane rapid prototyping range. Seven new systems allow users to vacuum-cast intricate, fully functional prototypes from materials which replicate rubber, PMMA, PE, PP, and ABS. The systems are for use in automotive, aerospace, and consumer goods. Individual systems include a black, glass-filled system with a high temperature resistance; a high flexural modulus system with a longer working life; black and pigmentable systems with good impact strength; and to simulate rubber, a black Shore 65 system with good tear resistance.

Model 71-2600 quick-action, over-center fastener features an internal spring; a space bar riveted on each side for increased strength; and a narrow, channel section base that helps conceal the fixing holes and mounting screws to deter tampering and aid security. A central compression spring allows movement of 7 mm. Beyond the 72-kg maximum spring loading, the trunnion compressing the spring meets a stop, avoiding any coil binding that could damage the spring. The fastener is 122 mm long and weighs 0.162 kg.
