Hoping to increase efficiency and decrease waste, ABB Flexible Automation (www.abb.com) is developing a robot that may eliminate paint hoses. The IRB 5400 robot works with the ABB Cartridge Bells System, so paint is filled into the reusable cartridges, and there is no time or materials wasted by cleaning the hoses. As an added bonus, since the paint is isolated in the cartridges, the waterborne paint can be directly charged with electro-statics, creating a more efficient transfer to a vehicle.
