The IIE (www.iienet.org) is hosting a product management seminar specifically designed for engineers on March 24-25, 2005. Participants will be asked to create an initial plan for a project at their own facility and present it for seminar discussion. When they finish the seminar and return to the workplace, they will be further ahead than when they left, the IIE says.
Industrial workplaces are governed by OSHA rules, but this isn’t to say that rules are always followed. While injuries happen on production floors for a variety of reasons, of the top 10 OSHA rules that are most often ignored in industrial settings, two directly involve machine design: lockout/tagout procedures (LO/TO) and machine guarding.
