The Swedish company Leander Bros. is a serious competitor in the European Drag Racing Championship circuit, and this year the team is introducing a 3,500 hp entry into a specific segment of the circuit—the Funny Car segment. But don't laugh: There is nothing funny about this Funny Car.
A Mustang derivative, Leander's Top Methanol Funny Car entry reportedly goes up to 250 mph.
Engineers on the racing team are using IronCAD (www.ironcad.com) software in their race-car design efforts. "It has made it possible for us to evaluate more design concepts," says Ulf Leanders.
Using wireless chips and accessories, engineers can now extract data from the unlikeliest of places -- pumps, motors, bridges, conveyors, refineries, cooling towers, parking garages, down-hole drills and just about anything else that can benefit from monitoring.
With strong marketplace demand for qualified engineers across the board that currently outstrips the available supply, there may never be a better time for engineers and project managers to advance their careers and salaries. Whether those moves are successful in the short-term and long-term is likely to depend on how the transition from one job to the next is handled.
