Sponsored Technology Content RAQ's - Amplifier plumbing 101: Are Leaky Amps Sinking Your Design? In partnership with Analog Devices
A reader writes ... My amplifier "leaks" a low level signal at the output with the power supplies off. What gives ... is my circuit sunk? See how to diagnose this high-speed amplifier "plumbing" problem, and find a solution for your own design... Read More Light Matters: The Unexplored Pacific OceanIn partnership with Avnet
By skillfully applying a knowledge of the ocean's "optical bandpass" characteristics, you can design HBLED systems enabling divers and underwater photographers to see further, deeper and for extended time periods. Additionally, conventional radio communications at great depths is limited to the ELF range of the electromagnetic spectrum, about 100 Hz. Learn how to keep your head above water with regard to HBLED issues. Read More LEAD-FREE ZONE - Are you RoHS compliant? In partnership with Digi-Key
The European Restriction of Hazardous Substances Act restricts the use of lead-based solder and certain other heavy metals in electronic products sold in European Union countries, effective 7/06. Find the latest information and resources to help you comply with the regulations at the LEAD-FREE ZONE. Read More White Paper: Tackle Welding EnvironmentsIn partnership with Turck Industrial Automation
Welding environments require field testing for the effectiveness of different materials generally used in sensor design for weld-specific sensors. Unforgiving welding environments erode standard proximity sensors at a rate higher than other locations (due to slag and splatter from the weld flash). Learn how to choose a sensor that will be both effective and efficient. Read More 2007 Engineering Salary Survey - Available Now!In Partnership with Aerotek

In a bid to boost the viability of lithium-based electric car batteries, a team at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory has developed a chemistry that could possibly double an EV’s driving range while cutting its battery cost in half.
For industrial control applications, or even a simple assembly line, that machine can go almost 24/7 without a break. But what happens when the task is a little more complex? That’s where the “smart” machine would come in. The smart machine is one that has some simple (or complex in some cases) processing capability to be able to adapt to changing conditions. Such machines are suited for a host of applications, including automotive, aerospace, defense, medical, computers and electronics, telecommunications, consumer goods, and so on. This discussion will examine what’s possible with smart machines, and what tradeoffs need to be made to implement such a solution.
