Texas Instruments' new ROM-based C280x and Flash-based F280x digital signal controllers are optimized for motor control, and are said to be particularly well-suited to such applications as electronic power steering and integrated starter-alternator control. Both processors employ a patent-pending Pulse Width Modulator (PWM) with 150 ps resolution, reportedly making them about 64 times more precise than competing processors. One member of the family — the TMS320F2809 — offers 256 Kbytes of on-chip Flash and six PWM channels of 150 ps resolution.
