Bimba's latest entry in the rodless cylinder category is said to reduce leakage by 75 percent over competing mechanically-coupled cylinders that use bands to seal. The piston and yoke presents a special sealing challenge in these designs, according to the company, because the cylinder must break along its full bore to permit the connection. The new Bimba design specifically targets applications such as door opening, material handling and conveying, packaging and palletizing. The cylinder can be ordered in a variety of bores, sized in either inches or millimeters, with stroke lengths up to 10 feet. Optional side guides are available to accompany a range of position-sensing options and standard cushioning.
