HAZMATCAT is a hand-held chemical detector enabled by a new polymer from Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL). The polymer absorbs nerve agent molecules from the air, so that the sensors may detect them. HAZMAT-CAT is sensitive to the deadly chemical Sarin. Chemical detection is important to finding dangerous and deadly chemicals in subways, buildings, and public locations.
