SAE 2000 is an international showcase for automotive materials, components and services, sponsored by the Society of Automotive Engineers. Its tradeshow exposition and educational/technical sessions attract over 1,300 exhibiting companies and 50,000 automotive designers, specifiers, and engineering managers.
With this year's host, BMW AG, the show will continue its international spin, pulling over 10% of its total attendance from outside North America. This year's theme is "Adding value to life through technology and advanced mobility."
New for this year's show will be the SAE Automotive Computer Technology Showcase, an interactive exhibit that will allow engineers and executives to experience the newest hardware and software, and see the latest applications for digital design and modeling, data storage and analysis, inventory, and plant floor control.
And attendees can visit the SAE Driving Experience, testing their driving skills on one of four test tracks in the latest cars from Detroit and around the world. Professional driving instructors will demonstrate the latest safety techniques.
Other special events at SAE 2000 include: the Blue Ribbon Panel, a career fair, family night, an engineering education luncheon panel, and sessions on "How To Do Business in Hungary" and "The Role of Women in the Auto Industry." Finally, the annual banquet will begin at 7 pm March 9 with the introduction of Rodica Baranescu--SAE's 2000 president elect, and chief engineer at Navistar International--before the address from this year's principal speaker, Lester C. Thurow, Professor of Management & Economics at MIT.

Three new non-contacting rotary position sensors offer active sensing technology at a low price. The NRPS1 is the standard model, with the smallest possible size, for TPS, EGR, valve position, etc. The NRPS2 is the smallest possible component that allows integration with a standard primary drive rotor and electrical and mechanical interface. The NRPS2-2 dual output sensor adds an additional magnetic circuit and sensing electronics, for redundant throttle or pedal position. For all three, rotation angle ranges from 40 to 1207 clockwise or counter-clockwise, operating temperatures run from -40 to 150C with an accuracy of ±2.5%, and storage temperatures are -50 to 165C.

Rapid prototyping processor
The new CE555 Precision Prototyping Processor integrates the Motorola MPC555 into the hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) development environment, and expands its attributes by providing access to the internal processor operations as well as the I/O signals, allowing new control strategies to be tested at minimum cost.
