With the new look and feel of Design News Online (www.designnews.com), we've added some new features engineers should find useful. Under the "Engineer's Resources" button on the left of every page, you'll now find Chapter 7 "Couplings and U-Joints," of The Power Transmission Handbook, a publication of the Power Transmission Distributors Association (PTDA). This US-based trade association represents more than 260 power transmission/motion control distributors with over 2,700 locations worldwide. The handbook is available for purchase through the PTDA web site (www.ptda.org ).
Also coming soon to the site, a "cyber vending machine" offering engineers the opportunity to order industry standards online. Design News and Information Handling Services (IHS, www.ihs.com ) have joined together to provide approximately 30 standards focusing on the automotive industry to start. And we'll soon be adding more industry standards in a variety of markets and technologies. IHS is an international publisher of electronic information databases.

Supplybase.source is a new online manufacturing site that matches buyers and suppliers of custom electronics parts and assemblies in the high-tech, automotive, medical, and consumer markets. Located at www.supplybasesource.com, the site lets users search for information on 80,000 supplier companies, send out an request for quote (RFQ) or a project inquiry e-mail on the site, and even save and maintain a supplier contact list on the "My Profile" part of the site. Registration is required, but is free.
Toolwire.com (www.toolwire.com ) allows electronics designers to design, build, and source products online using their Design Chain Management (DCM) Network. The site offers "DCM Workbench," an online design workbench for electronics with design applications stitched together that runs over the Internet on a pay-per-use subscription basis. Engineers can run multiple jobs simultaneously and manage their design results online. The workbench provides synthesis, place, and route calculations for Field Programmable Gate Arrays featuring tools from Synopsys and Lucent, and recently added configurable system-on-chip technology and ASIC environments as well.
Mack Group, a contract manufacturer specializing in plastics design, prototyping, and molding, has recently expanded its website at www.mack.com. The new site offers a services section with information on product design and development, custom injection molding, and contract manufacturing, including case histories.
If you're looking for machine visions, then check out the Automated Imaging Association's new site at www.machinevisiononline.org .†Machine Vision Online features a buyer's guide to find information on companies and products, as well as request for bids on the site. There also are feature articles, and tips for new users including articles on getting started in machine vision and selecting a system integrator. In addition, the site features a message board and live chats.
CAD-Portal.com is a website offering information on software and hardware related to MCAD, ECAD, AEC, and mechanical manufacturing; collaborative software; ERP and PDM systems; software libraries and shareware; user group news; industry meetings; papers and publications; and jobs. The site is updated daily and features Infochannels for engineers looking for data related to AutoCAD, CATIA, Pro/E, I-DEAS, SolidWorks, and Unigraphics.
