To prove-out their CAD designs, engineers have traditionally crafted models from wood, clay or foam. Stratasys' Eden500V offers a faster and less costly method that places no limits on the number of design iterations that can be generated. When a CAD file is downloaded to the system, it builds the part in cross sections, layer by layer (0.0006-inch layer resolution), from photo-polymer resin. Engineers can then evaluate the design, identify any flaws, and update their CAD files. The Eden500V uses sealed liquid resin containers and jets the precise amount of resin needed, in droplets, like ink in an inkjet printer.
