While the slowing economy is deterring orders for high-tech devices, makers of thermal imaging cameras have received enquiries of their products as airports worldwide are beginning to install the cameras to help halt the spread of Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS). At Singapore's Changi airport, the first airport to deploy such technology, the cameras capture thermal maps of each passenger, thus helping authorities spot those who have an above-normal temperature, an early symptom of SARS.
