Newton, MA -Not able to make it to The National Design Engineering Show at National Manufacturing Week? Don't worry. Design News is bringing NMW to you. In addition to the print coverage found in this issue, Design News introduces exclusive video highlights of the show on its website. Simply log on to www.designnews.com to view free video segments directly on your computer screen.
The site uses streaming technology, which utilizes RealPlayer to display video and play sound on the computer's speakers without requiring users to download segment files onto their hard drives. The RealPlayer software is also free, and a link is provided on the Design News site for those wanting to add this program to their systems.
Five selections comprise the web video debut. The first offers an overview of National Manufacturing Week and includes brief highlights describing some of the top products for designers found at the show, including many that incorporate new Internet-based technologies.
"Many companies at the show were either integrating the web into products or using the web to provide application and product support to design engineers," says Lawrence Maloney, publisher of Design News . "It's really transforming almost every product that you look at."
The Design News booth was also among the most popular exhibits at NMW, and the second video brings it directly to your computer. You'll see many of the technologies featured in Design News during the past year, including a motorized surfboard, the world's fastest toy train, a challenging monster truck simulator, and Cadillac's Night Vision system.
"The idea behind the booth was to bring engineers in to see technology in action and have some fun in the process," says Design News Executive Editor Karen Field.
The other video segments provide extended information on three top products exhibited at the show. Known as Video Show Stoppers, the features allow designers to discover the functions and benefits of these products first-hand. Included are Ethernet and DeviceNet connectors from Woodhead Connectivity, clean room products from Bosch Automation, and new quarter-turn fasteners from Paneloc. Simply click their icon on the website to see how these products work.
