Maxell Corp. of America (http://maxell.com) has introduced two high temperature-resistant coin-type Li/MnO2 batteries for tire pressure monitoring systems and other rugged applications. The batteries—available as CR2450-HR for standard vehicles and CR2450-EX for premium vehicles—can operate from -40 to 150C and have a standard capacity from 525 to 550 mAh. Both types measure 24.5 mm in diameter and 5 mm high, and weigh less than 6.8g.
Producing high-quality end-production metal parts with additive manufacturing for applications like aerospace and medical requires very tightly controlled processes and materials. New standards and guidelines for machines and processes, materials, and printed parts are underway from bodies such as ASTM International.
Engineers at the University of San Diego’s Jacobs School of Engineering have designed biobatteries on commercial tattoo paper, with an anode and cathode screen-printed on and modified to harvest energy from lactate in a person’s sweat.
