Engine extrusions
An extruded-aluminum four-cylinder prototype IC (internal
combustion) engine, demonstrated late last year, took
less than seven months to develop. Power Beat Intl.
Ltd. claims the technology provides the following advantages
for engine design and manufacture:
High efficiency
The engine, code named ALU-XTM, uses an
extruded-aluminum cylinder block, crank case, head,
and sump "plate," all held together with tierods.
Also, piston valves replace poppet valves and allow
for a sidevalve arrangement that increases the efficiency
of the engine, reduces noise, extends overall life and
reduces engine height compared to overhead valve engines.
