MISUMI Introduces Standard
Linear Actuators Engineers with specialized linear motion requirements may still find themselves designing and building custom actuators, but general automation applications usually work just fine with off-the-shelf models. MISUMI USA now supports both approaches to linear actuation.Full Story

Sponsored Technology Content Case Study: Crushing Stones with "Shocking" AccuracyIn partnership with Bishop Wisecarver
The customer designs therapy machines to crush kidney or gall stones by a piezoelectric shock wave treatment. The original system used an aluminum guide with two segments. However, inaccuracies were occurring due to deposits from the aluminum and the inability of the guide to handle the weight. Find out how Bishop Wisecarver provided the solution. Read More

White Paper: Tackle Welding EnvironmentsIn partnership with Turck Industrial Automation
Welding environments require field testing for the effectiveness of different materials generally used in sensor design for weld-specific sensors. Unforgiving welding environments erode standard proximity sensors at a rate higher than other locations (due to slag and splatter from the weld flash). Learn how to choose a sensor that will be both effective and efficient. Read More

Passive Techniques for Reducing Input Current HarmonicsYaskawa | White Paper IEEE 519-1992 and EN61000-3-2 have evolved to become a common requirement cited when specifying equipment on newly engineered projects. Various harmonic filtering techniques have been developed to meet these specifications. The present IEEE 519-1992 document establishes acceptable levels of harmonics (voltage and current) that can be introduced into the incoming feeders by commercial and industrial users. Download this whitepaper for additional information.

In a bid to boost the viability of lithium-based electric car batteries, a team at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory has developed a chemistry that could possibly double an EV’s driving range while cutting its battery cost in half.
For industrial control applications, or even a simple assembly line, that machine can go almost 24/7 without a break. But what happens when the task is a little more complex? That’s where the “smart” machine would come in. The smart machine is one that has some simple (or complex in some cases) processing capability to be able to adapt to changing conditions. Such machines are suited for a host of applications, including automotive, aerospace, defense, medical, computers and electronics, telecommunications, consumer goods, and so on. This discussion will examine what’s possible with smart machines, and what tradeoffs need to be made to implement such a solution.
