In certain applications, a cylinder's cycle time is critical. That means that it must not only extend quickly; it must return fast, as well. Using poppet-type Jumbo Exhaust Valves from Clippard Instrument Laboratory, machine builders can speed the return, even on pneumatic cylinders with long strokes. To accomplish that, the Jumbo Exhaust valve mounts on the cylinder, and dumps pressure on the other side of the piston as soon as the inlet pressure reaches zero. The Jumbo Exhaust Valve allows for use of smaller control valves and longer supply lines. It is said to be ideal for packaging machinery and automation applications. While every company might have their own solution for PLM, Aras Innovator 10 intends to make PLM easier for all company sizes through its customization. The program is also not resource intensive, which allows it to be appropriated for any use. Some have even linked it to the Raspberry Pi.
Using a 3D printer, CNC router, and existing powertrain components, a team of engineers is building an electric car from scratch on the floor of the International Manufacturing Technology Show in Chicago this week.
In November, a European space probe will try to land on the surface of a comet moving at about 84,000 mph and rotating with a period of 12.7 hours. Many factors make positioning the probe for the landing an engineering challenge.
