Milwaukee, WI —Kabelschlepp America has introduced a line of workpiece manipulators and turners designed to precisely position large, cumbersome workpieces. Regardless of the piece's shape, size, or weight, the system provides jerk-free positioning and turning for inspection, assembly, or additional operations. Each manipulator is custom designed to fit the specific requirements of the application.
Engineers used AutoCAD 2000 and Mechanical Desktop to create 3D models of the system. To determine the stress/strain, beam strength, size, and material thickness, they used MathCAD.
A complete system includes a lifting beam; suspension and drive units with the turning mechanism; an optional lead-screw and width adjustment units; a set of flat band lifting slings; and electrical controls. Push-button pendant controls or optional radio control units allow operators to remain a safe distance from the suspended load.
Key are new arc drive units suspended below the lifting beam to house the turning mechanism. These units are available in either a fixed or adjustable width configuration. Manual adjustment is standard. Fully automatic adjustment is available as an option.
Typical applications for the manipulator are truck frames, molding tools, locomotives, and armored personnel carriers.
