Terminal blocks provide a transition point for internal and external system connections and the means for easy servicing. For some applications, high temperature operation is essential. In other applications, the requirements to handle higher currents pose safety risks, so agencies such as Underwriters Lab. (UL), International Electro-technical Commission (IEC) and Canadian Standards Assn. (CSA) have developed rating systems to assure minimal protection levels. Addressing a variety of application requirements, the following sensors have flexibility as a distinct capability.
High-Current Terminal Blocks
Heyco Products Inc. ERTB high current terminal blocks connect line-voltage power transmission to electrical equipment. Accepting either aluminum or copper wire, the three-pole terminal blocks have a small footprint, yet provide secure points for wire connections. The blocks mount to any cabinet or housing attachment location. A protective strip under each pole prevents piercing either copper-wire strands or softer aluminum wire, yet holds both securely. The single row, three-wire pole design handles line voltage on one or two poles and neutral and ground wires on the one or two remaining poles. Each pole accepts 6 to 4 AWG aluminum wire or 10 to 6 AWG copper stranded wire rated to 300V, 60A. Molded of impact-resistant polycarbonate with a 125C temperature rating, the terminal blocks are UL recognized and CSA certified. This makes the blocks well-suited for washers and dryers, electric water heaters, heat pumps, electric ranges and applications that need high-current copper or aluminum wire connections.

IEC Terminal Blocks
IEC terminal blocks from c3controls address ground, multi-level, sensor, multi-conductor, fuse holder and disconnect applications in the industrial market. The terminal blocks are rated for Code 1, factory wiring only, or Code 2, both factory and field wiring. The connectors meet IEC, UL and CSA requirements. For fast circuit recognition, up to eight different colored terminal blocks are offered. In addition, customers can create their own 5 to 20 mm wide markers from standard, blank or custom accessories. The IEC terminal blocks are available in screw clamps from 20 to 232A, spring clamps from 20 to 50A and miniature panel mounts in both the spring and screw clamp ranging from 20 to 35A. Multi-level terminal blocks simplify 3-wire sensor installation. Fuse holder terminal blocks accommodate IEC and North American control circuit fuses.

Cable-to-Board Connector
Designed for automotive, industrial and consumer electronics devices, ERNI's single-row cable connector system offers flexible board-to-cable connections. The MiniBridge connectors have a pitch of 1.27 mm (0.050 inch) and can provide a high current-carrying capacity of up to 4A (at 20C, depending on the cable). At higher temperatures, the current-carrying capacity is reduced, derated to 3A at 70C and to 2A at 100C. The IDC terminal is configured for solid or stranded AWG-26 conductors. A -55 to 125C temperature range allows the connector system to function in varied applications. With straight or angled male connectors and female connectors where the cables are fed out at 90 or 180 degrees, the connector system addresses many space restricted situations. Now available with 2, 3, 6 and 8 poles in addition to the original 4-pin version, the connector is designed for fully automatic pick-and-place or processing on SMT process lines.
