Large moments caused by non-axial loads can shorten the service life and damage the performance of pneumatic actuators. To address that problem, engineers from Bimba Manufacturing Co. have designed the PneuMoment pneumatic cylinder. PneuMoment's large bearing surfaces are designed to resist high side loads and large moments. The unit, which is available in a 27-mm bore size, offers standard side and end ports for easy plumbing. A new service lets engineers and orthopedic surgeons design and 3D print highly accurate, patient-specific, orthopedic medical implants made of metal -- without owning a 3D printer. Using free, downloadable software, users can import ASCII and binary .STL files, design the implant, and send an encrypted design file to a third-party manufacturer.
