Autodesk has acquired two software companies and agreed to purchase part of a third, all with capabilities for enabling PLM.
TruEInnovations, Inc. and Linius Technologies are now in the Autodesk fold. The former develops file and data management software that's integrated into Autodesk Inventor, and is geared for small and medium-sized companies. The latter develops cable and wire harness modeling software and manufacturing documentation.
Autodesk will purchase some of the assets of Via Development, which develops programs to generate electrical schematics for electrical, automation, and control engineers.
The company went the acquisition route to get its PLM capabilities to market more quickly than if it developed those products itself from scratch, Autodesk engineers say.
Previously, Autodesk's PLM capabilities consisted of its CAD program and Streamline, its on-line collaboration service.
