For those who want even greater latitude in material properties, newcomer Par3 Technology LLC has launched its RP Tempering process. Usable on all rapid prototype parts, this unique approach alters mechanical and thermal properties to increase impact and torsional strength, increase heat resistance and heat deflection, and control flex modulus.
RP Tempering is based on nano-composite technology. In its original form, the RP Tempering material is injected into a series of tunnels or grooves added to the STL file for the part. Additionally, with the Proto-Plasma-Rx procedure, the property-altering compound is sprayed on to the surface of the rapid prototype.
One example cited by the company shows that the heat deflection temperature of a stereolithography part was increased to 400F with overall heat resistance to 750F. In another example, also on a stereolithography part, impact strength was increased by 200 percent.
Par3 Technology offers RP Tempering as a licensed product to service bureaus, OEMs and other organizations. Services are available through the company or its licensees.
