The DASH 2000/3000 is a compact portable monitor used in ambulances by emergency medical technicians to track patient vital signs while in route to a hospital and intra-hospital transit. The unit features a display screen, keypad, and rotary optical encoder.
Grayhill, Inc. supplies the four-button conductive rubber keypad with integrated LED's, and a pre-wired Series 62 optical encoder. The Trim Knob®optical encoder and four-button LED keypad enhances equipment functionality, allowing the healthcare professional to easily access the various menus options for the monitoring and diagnostics system. GE Marquette chose the Grayhill Series 62 due to the small package size (0.5 sq inches), and the reliability of optical encoder technology.
Grayhill encoders use quadrature output code, which is the same as a 2-bit, repeating gray code. In a quadrature rotary optical encoder, two detectors are used to provide outputs, "A" and "B". The code rotor either blocks the infrared light or allows it to pass to the detectors. As the shaft turns the rotor, the outputs change state to indicate position. The resulting output is two square waves 90°out of phase.
The Series 62 encoder is available in both 3.3 and 5.0V versions with an optional integrated push button for entering menu selections.
