Airline delays and high fuel prices are boosting interest in video conferencing, but the technology still lacks the realism some users want. Polycom Inc. is addressing sound quality with its SoundStructure, an installed audio system that delivers remarkable sound clarity and full stereo echo cancellation ideal for conference rooms, classrooms, meetings and other environments.
SoundStructure applications use a host of DSP-intensive audio processing algorithms like acoustic echo cancellation, automatic gain control, dynamics processing, equalization, noise cancellation and audio mixing. Texas Instruments' TMS320C6727 DSP handles these tasks, with extra attention focused on noise cancellation and 22 kHz wide band stereo acoustic echo cancellation.
