SolidView 3.0 lets users add 2D objects to their 3D designs. These 2D objects can range from a single GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerance) frame to a complete set of engineering drawings. The package lets users register themselves as authors for all view and markup annotations. Collaborative review tools let users view notes, markups, and other annotations chronologically or by author. An optional VDA-FS import feature allows for the direct import, viewing, and measuring of VDA-FS files. Users can also import complete assembly structures in VRML format, view the assembly structure within SolidView, and selectively show and hide elements within the structure.
Producing high-quality end-production metal parts with additive manufacturing for applications like aerospace and medical requires very tightly controlled processes and materials. New standards and guidelines for machines and processes, materials, and printed parts are underway from bodies such as ASTM International.
Engineers at the University of San Diego’s Jacobs School of Engineering have designed biobatteries on commercial tattoo paper, with an anode and cathode screen-printed on and modified to harvest energy from lactate in a person’s sweat.
