Durability, high reliability, low cost, and the ability to withstand a high
number of cycles are practically givens when it comes to requirements for
components used in industrial machinery. The challenge is finding a technology
that meets those expectations without introducing too many trade-offs.
Tol-O-Matic's new BC3 rodless cylinder is designed to meet the most stringent
of specifications, while at the same time providing smooth tracking as well as
space and weight savings over alternatives. Designed for large load capacities
(up to 2,000 lbs), this cylinder can handle applications with high offset loads
and long cycle requirements--which typically require a cylinder with an external
rail system to support and guide the sensors. The BC3, however, houses a unique
patented ball bearing system, within the cylinder itself. Internal seals protect
against outside moisture and contaminants, and the bearings are factory
pre-loaded to avoid carrier deflection when subjected to loads.
The BC3's internal rails are designed to support the carrier while providing
the stiffness required for reliable motion and sensor positioning. The unique
load-bearing carrier design allows the rodless cylinders to have one of the
highest bending moment ratings in its class. Mounting is also a snap, as T-slots
on three cylinder sides allow easy insertion of the T-nuts.
The cylinder is available in 1, 11/2, and 2-inch bore sizes. Typical uses
include applications involving heavier side loads, such as pick-and-place
machines, and transfer equipment.
