Valves are available with a sunlight-resistant PVC as an optional material for outdoor applications. UV rays affect PVC valves by degrading the polymer's molecular structure. The added carbon black blocks the UV component, and allows the PVC to maintain its properties, even in installations totally exposed to sunlight. The rugged thermoplastic is targeted for outdoor use where metal valving is more suceptible to corrosion.
