Robotic Mule

November 30, 2007

Have you seen this?

When I first saw this I thought it was two people in some sort of puppet suit costume, like the one of a horse. Needless to say that was not actually the case.

This is the Big Dog, a creation from Boston Dynamics, an MIT spin off lab located just outside Boston, MA.

The Big Dog can carry up to 150 Lbs and is being developed for the US military presumably to assist troops in the field by carrying their gear.

The aspect of the Big Dog (displayed in the video) that I found most fascinating, was its ability to keep its balance when kicked or pushed. Also its ability to run and jump at the end was impressive.
