DOE: Solar Decathlon in DC
Today October 12th is the official kick off of the 3rdSolar Decathlon, presented by the Department of Energy’s Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy division.
According to the event website, the event is “a competition in which 20 teams of college and university students compete to design, build, and operate the most attractive, effective, and energy-efficient solar-powered house.” The houses are now open to the public, but have been under construction since October 3rd.

To wet your appetite a little more, here is a retrospective of the Solar Decathlon leading up to today.
The event takes place on the National Mall in Washington DC and will be open to the public through next Saturday October 20th.
