The Impossible Car Park
Richard Langner sent this photo he snapped in Sheffield, UK — it gives a whole new meaning toe the term “parallel parking,” noting:
“Try as I may, I just could NOT manage to park within the lines!”
Tony Bjorklund commented:
I could fit a Mecedes in there because everybody knows that a Mecedes - Benz . jk
Maybe the bold line across the front means NO parking?
Jolly Jeff commented:
No problem for the Indian drivers - they ignor all lines - and most traffic lights only suggest possible actions to be taken!! They could get six Tata's in there, and four Tuk Tuk's!!
Surfboy commented:
Just a picture of what is left of the parking lot that the new addition (right of parking spaces)to the building sits upon. Cute!
OlRusty commented:
In the '50s a design was shown for a hydraulic powered landing gear, a single wheel perpendicular to the rear axle, behind the differential that could swing the rear end into a parallel parking spot after nosing the front into position. Keeps the compact from zipping into the spot you were going to back your land yacht into in conventional fashion.
Jiffy commented:
Yeah Baby!!
katonk commented:
Getting out? That's easy: pop a Mentos and find some burly construction workers to carry it out of the space.
Oliver H. Bailey commented:
It Looks like the San Jose International Airport striping team went to the UK!
BAS commented:
the Stig could do it..with full racing helmet on, no less.
Rich commented:
Motorcycles, anyone??
Lor-CA commented:
Does not surprise me. The English use this for personal helicopter parking.
JC42 commented:
Didn't Mazda make a rear-wheel steering car at one point - bet it could park in there.
James commented:
The "T.25" is much like the smart car, and having having dedicated HOV or 'small car' lanes would be akin to having motorcycle lanes...mot going to happen, but is the only way that these cars would be safe and accepted by the masses.
oh, on this pic...one car, new planters, forklift...
Noor commented:
And we haven't even gotten to the handicapped spot yet.
KJ commented:
Clark Griswald could get the family truckster in there while asleep at the wheel
MSUboxhead commented:
Chuck Norris could get 4 cars in there.
DF commented:
What's wrong with that? Any stunt driver worth his salt could park there. Getting back out? That's a different story....
Manuel commented:
Smart cars can do it
k7itm commented:
Reminds me of one I saw on "Hidden Camera." Car was parked in a standard 2-car garage--right in the middle of the doorway, with the length of the car parallel to the door. Tow trucks called; couldn't imagine how the woman got it in there!
Cyssie commented:
Haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa! Would love to hear George Carlin's comment!
Seattle Engineer commented:
Looks like the previous parking lot striping was not removed or painted over when the new planters were installed. I'd say this is just one stall now.
Susan commented:
Yeah, looks like I gotta watch Tokyo Drift: The Fast and the Furious over and over and over again...
Gary commented:
I agree with Don, go to any airport car park, many can park, without embarrassment, across the lines (what lines?). Anyway, should be possible as long as your the last one parking.
Tsang Sum Kin commented:
You have to know how to drift before you park your car there ...
BiffSocko commented:
Most of us New Yorkers can do it
Don - Success Hill commented:
Bikes, shopping trollies, baby prams,
shopping centre drivers that never see lines ...
it's just a case on how you see it!
Marinel Zavodu commented:
When will be ready for the market, buy one T.25 (search for Gordon Murray design), and you will not find any problem to park there!!

Cliff Greenberg commented:
I was lucky enough to see this at the 2008 Paris Auto Show, Franco Sbarro's City car designed for Assystem (really!): search for Sbarro city car or look on the worldcarfans website. This guy has some great design concepts and I would buy one of these in a heartbeat.
Will commented:
Spaces for Smart cars. You can actually park 6 of them in this much space.
JWMmotorsports commented:
Power Slide...Drift...Fork Lift...Floor Jack & Car Dollies ;-)
skiboomer commented:
It is possible to park with judicious use of handbrake and centrepidal force. Getting out, however would require a fork lift.
FASR commented:
I think you should be able to back in, starting with the car closet to the left. This should work for all three slots.
Avi commented:
Mind challenge: I will park it normal to the parking lines...u can fit in 3 cars....
Art Galvan commented:
Austin Powers could do it.
