EU wants your input on possible revisions to RoHS and WEEE

The European Union (EU) would wants to know how RoHS and WEEE have affected the electronics industry. The EU has hired research teams from Environment Consultancy and Assistance (ECOLAS) and Risk and Policy Analysts (RPA) to conduct studies on both RoHS and WEEE.

The research includes a reach-out questionnaire to the electronics industry. Between now and May 25, 2007, the EU is looking for input from the electronics industry. To take advantage of this opportunity to contribute input, complete the questionnaires posted by IPC. The study many result in recommendations for revisions in both directives.

According to a statement posted on Rohs-news.com, the group will look at RoHS to determine the economic and environmental impact through a cost-benefit analysis. The RoHS questionnaire focuses on compliance costs and benefits, technical costs, and social impact.

The study on WEEE will look at the directive’s impact on innovation and competition. The group will seek to identify those factors and requirements that have critical positive or negative effects. The questionnaire looks at company details such as overall WEEE costs to companies affected, costs associated with R&D and trades issues.
