New RoHS info database

November 14, 2005

Virtual Chip Exchange Inc. (VCE) of Hauppauge, N.Y. has partnered with Total Parts Plus Inc. of Fort Walton Beach, Fla. to offer a parts database with RoHS compliance content on individual electronic components. The database contains RoHS status, lead-free status, data sheets, moisture sensitivity levels, material content disclosures, product change notifications and obsolete or end-of-life status on 2.5 million parts.

VCE’s director of sales and marketing, Daren Saroop, said the parts database can be accessed for five days at no cost. After the test period, subscription prices are $9.99 to search one part, $39.99 for unlimited searching for one week, and $79.99 per month for ongoing unlimited searches. Saroop notes the content of the site was determined based on the part data that is critical to users. “We wanted to offer something that would match what people really need,” says Saroop. He points out that data sheets are offered as archives on database, as opposed to links to the manufacturer’s Website.
