HP Upgrades Workstation With AMD Shanghai

December 2, 2008

Hewlett-Packard  has lined up to be among the first OEMs to tap AMD’s new Shanghai 45nm Quad-Core Opteron, installing the processor in the latest version of its HP xw9400 workstation.

The latest AMD Opteron processor significantly ups workstation performance compared to previous generation Opteron processors, while also decreasing power consumption at idle. The result is an HP workstation tuned for high-end applications such as engineering, 3-D digital content creation, oil and gas and video editing.

In addition to its performance improvements,, the HP xw9400 ushers in a host of environmental benefits. The system is registered as an Electronic Products Environmental Assessment Tool (EPEAT) Gold product, the highest rating available. All HP workstations are more than 90 percent recyclable by weight and incorporate a tool-less chassis design for quick and easy upgrades by hand. Each workstation includes an 80 PLUS power supply, which is more efficient than a standard power supply, reducing both overall energy usage and the amount of waste heat released into the environment.

The HP xw9400 with the new Shanghai Opteron processor is priced starting at $2,303.
