As part of its push to make PLM technology more accessible, Dassault Systemes has added another module to its PLM Express line—this time a tool that offers scalable digital manufacturing solutions for smaller businesses.

DELMIA PLM Express, aimed at five to 50-plus person companies, offers role-based applications that allow smaller companies to better connect with larger organizations. Through simulation, digital manufacturing tools like DELMIA allow companies to optimize production systems and manufacturing processes in a virtual world rather than having to build out costly, physical prototypes of the factory floor.

DELMIA PLM Express is being offered in five role-based domains:

Resource Planning: Allows resource planning professionals to model in 3D and validate the tooling and manufacturing workcells in a virtual world. This helps companies cut costs by eliminating production stoppage for set-up validation on the shop floor and by eliminating rework costs.

Robotics: Offers robotic simulation and offline programming capabilities, including dedicated functionality for arc and spot welding applications. Dassault positions this capability as helping companies save time and money by eliminating, once again, production stoppage on plant floor equipment and by enabling faster development of new processes.

Ergonomics: Allows manufacturers to optimize the human work space by building kinematic human models and simulating processes. Users can also perform risk factor analysis to maximize human comfort and safety through a variety of tools included in the package that can be tapped to evaluate elements of a human’s interaction with a work cell.

Process Planning: Targeted toward planners or design engineers, this function delivers assembly process planning and validation and simulation tools along with assembly animation and dynamic authoring capabilities for assembly shop floor work instructions.

Controls: Smart Device Builder capabilities let engineers create the mechanical, kinematical and logical behavior of devices that can then be used to validate PLC programs virtually.
