Making Designs Real

November 13, 2007

Looking for fast and reasonably cost-effective way to create 3D models of your design—then produce an actual physical prototype? 3D Systems Corp., which markets rapid prototyping solutions, is teaming up with CAD provider Alibre Inc. to deliver an integrated solution.

3D Systems’ new V-Flash Desktop Modeler, the first product based on its new Film Transfer Imaging (FTI) technology platform, will include the Alibre Design Xpress 3D CAD package for no extra charge. Alibre Design Xpress is Alibre’s scaled down, free version of its parametric, 3D CAD tool. The companies are positioning the bundle as a way to introduce rapid prototyping capabilities to a broader range of applications and as a way to make what they call “art to part” capabilities accessible to anyone, even those with limited budgets or technical CAD skills.

V-Flash Desktop Modeler has a base price of $9,900.

I am looking for a way to use a laptop to model actual big parts using a sensor type glove or mouse to trace over the part, showing all the complex curves and radius, length and width, which will produce model. Do you know of a product with this type of capability Thanks Gary Potter: VP

Light Matters: Systems Level Approach to HBLED illumination applications
Its good practice to apply a systems-level approach to high-brightness LED (HBLED) illumination applications. Minimally, the system includes the optical, thermal and electrical characteristics of the of the HBLED, the lens (if any) which is built-in to its package, secondary optics such as external plastic lenses/reflectors to direct the light as your application requires and power driver electronics.
