UGS adds content management capabilities to its Teamcenter PLM suite
The rivalry between CAD/PLM competitors UGS and PTC is heating up, and the result for customers is not too shabby: Having access to content management capabilities as part of an integrated PLM suite.
PTC dipped its toes into this area of functionality a while back via its acquisition of content management leader Arbortext, and UGS recently announced the immediate availability of its own content management addition to its Teamcenter PLM family.
Teamcenter Content Management treats product-related documentation as an intrinsic part of the product record, according to UGS officials, and is designed to eliminate the manual, repetitive processes (read: oftentimes, error prone) associated with the creation of technical publications. With Teamcenter Content Management, companies can tackle a number of technical publishing projects, including user and owner manuals, parts catalogs, work instructions such as assembly/disassembly instructions, maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) repair manuals and general documents like estimates and product labels.

Light Matters: Systems Level Approach to HBLED illumination applications
Its good practice to apply a systems-level approach to high-brightness LED (HBLED) illumination applications. Minimally, the system includes the optical, thermal and electrical characteristics of the of the HBLED, the lens (if any) which is built-in to its package, secondary optics such as external plastic lenses/reflectors to direct the light as your application requires and power driver electronics.
