UGS Improves PLM Integration in Tecnomatix 8
Building on the capabilities of its Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) platform, UGS has released a new version of its Tecnomatix digital manufacturing software with better integration to its core Teamcenter suite.
Tecnomatix 8 is the first release of the manufacturing software to support general assembly workflow within native Teamcenter and is the most major upgrade to the package since it was acquired by UGS last April. The improved integration, UGS officials say, will deliver an enterprise integration environment for manufacturing planning, simulation, documentation and execution of assembly processing, helping companies gain greater control of their product development and production processes by working with a single source of manufacturing knowledge.
The other major enhancement in Tecnomatix 8 is Process Simulate Robotics, a next-generation robotic and automation process planning and simulation tool that aims to help companies take planning to the next level. Process Simulate Robotics provides manufacturers with full line simulation, synchronization, programming and commissioning capabilities, including robot gardens, material flow and human activity.

Light Matters: Systems Level Approach to HBLED illumination applications
Its good practice to apply a systems-level approach to high-brightness LED (HBLED) illumination applications. Minimally, the system includes the optical, thermal and electrical characteristics of the of the HBLED, the lens (if any) which is built-in to its package, secondary optics such as external plastic lenses/reflectors to direct the light as your application requires and power driver electronics.
