Reduce part variability and improve tolerance control with a new barrel heating system in which induction coils replace heater bands. Recent tests at Sabic Innovative Plastics in Pittsfield, MA, show that melt streams are exposed to less shear and have a more homogeneous melt temperature when injected into a mold cavity. The induction approach was developed recently by Xaloy, a screw and barrel producer based in New Castle, PA. The report was reviewed at Molding 2008 today in San Francisco.
