AISI Targets Bar Steel Fatigue with Blog
Are you looking for advice on bar steel fatigue? The American Iron and Steel Institute is starting up a blog on that subject for materials engineers, application engineers, FEA simulation experts, as well as OEM and supplier design engineers. The first post covers the topic Does Grain Refining Practice Affect Fatigue Properties? The post looks at strain life data for aluminum, niobium and vanadium that are used for grain refinement in medium carbon steels. The post comes from blog administrator Tom Oakwood, a PhD metallurgical engineer with 40 years experience. He was one of the founding members of the AISI Bar Fatigue Database.

Light Matters: Systems Level Approach to HBLED illumination applications
Its good practice to apply a systems-level approach to high-brightness LED (HBLED) illumination applications. Minimally, the system includes the optical, thermal and electrical characteristics of the of the HBLED, the lens (if any) which is built-in to its package, secondary optics such as external plastic lenses/reflectors to direct the light as your application requires and power driver electronics.
