As always, the trick is to test all the correct conditions to insure a safe level of coverage.

@bobjengr: Well security threats are there and will remain forever. Without threats there is no value for data. What we have to do is to minimize the threats as much as possible.

little need for worry.

it's not like theyre cutting all testing out. just condensing this one particular test.

My greatest worry is missing vital information that may compromise safety.  I am a mechanical engineer and must admit I probably don't understand the minute details of the testing and simulation you mention in your article. I look at GM and the problems they had and are having with ignition switches and cringe a little when the objective is strictly time to market and cost cutting relative to testing. I know from your previous articles, GM's problem did not lie with insufficient testing but unwillingness to recognize or act upon reality and make necessary changes prior to experienced difficulties.  (Great articles by the way!!) I just hope the FPGAs are backed up, at least initially, with good-old-fashion test result using proven methods.  This will allow confidence and continued use of the "new" methodology.
