Interesting point, TJ. Definitely something I'll pursue with IMSI/Design next interview out. They seem to be releasing a steady stream of mobile stuff and my guess is the Autodesk audience is only one piece of who they'd like to reach, although I know they do see an opportunity particularly in the AEC/BIM market, which I don't see SolidWorks addressing.

This is a great start

Making the SDK free is a great start, but they may be limiting their horizons by sticking with AutoDesk's formats only.

Solidworks offers a free drawing viewer (eDrawings Viewer) which competes directly with AutoDesk's TrueView.

I'll reach for Solidworks' offering first because it opens and views more file types.  in addition to Solidworks formats, it opens all of AutoDesk's as well.  A more flexible tool is more useful.

I'll rebut the argument of installed base here; there is no one close to the installed 2D base that AutoDesk has.  That is not the case in the 3D market.

Hopefully, IMSI will consider this with their mobile app plans.
