Everything I've heard from you guys back East says this was a totally awful winter. We just got some rain here--and cooler weather with it--but it only makes a slight dent in what we need. Most of the surrounding water districts are now on Stage 2 mandatory cutbacks, although how that will be enforced remains to be seen in this mostly rural county. But it's real spring--everything's turning green. I'll be finishing spring cleaning soon.

Ann, you're funny...fall cleaning! I started, got most of it done, but here...winter keeps coming back. I think it's finally over now though. I thought it would never end. I almost think, despite snow, that this was the worst winter EVER for me...temp wise.

Cadman-LT, we're still on drought watch and running out of time.

Ann, well it could be worse. It is a swamp here from all of the thawing. We have one more day as well...today....that will be 7 degrees. So no water tonight....lol After tonight though everything should be ok....Bye Bye Mr. Winter! and good riddance!

Cadman-LT glad you got a breather. We finally got a little bit of rain and then some more. But still nowhere near enough.

Ann, it just got worse after that. Snowed a bunch. It's finally thawing and everything will be flooded. Least it's warm though, for a few days anyways. I'll take it!

Cadman-LT, sorry to hear about the bad weather out. Here in California we're going through a major drought. We'd gladly take some of that excess precipitation.

Alcoa has unveiled a new manufacturing and materials technology for making aluminum sheet, aimed especially at automotive, industrial, and packaging applications. If all its claims are true, this is a major breakthrough, and may convince more automotive engineers to use aluminum.
NASA has just installed a giant robot to help in its research on composite aerospace materials, like those used for the Orion spacecraft. The agency wants to shave the time it takes to get composites through design, test, and manufacturing stages.
The European Space Agency (ESA) is working with architects Foster + Partners to test the possibility of using lunar regolith, or moon rocks, and 3D printing to make structures for use on the moon. A new video shows some cool animations of a hypothetical lunar mission that carries out this vision.
If there's one thing 3D printing's good for, it's customization. New Balance Athletic Shoe Company has begun using 3D printing to make customized spike plates for its running shoes made for members of its Team New Balance runners. They provide better traction and shave off a tiny bit of weight.
Two teams, one based in the US and one in Europe, have 3D printed space-worthy support structures for satellite antenna arrays. These aren't prototypes: they're fully functioning antenna supports that will operate while exposed to the harsh temperatures and radiation of outer space.
