Yes on speed, I noted that the one machine was claiming a 10 X speed improvement over the competition.  This is the kind of jump one hopes to see in the early part of the development curve-I can't wait to see what the next 5 years will bring.

We are just seeing the thin edge of the development wedge on speed, materials and size.  Big fun for engineers.

@Anne i meant to say tht are the products printed with 3D printers are available in the market for sale as well or they are just the prototypes

Debera, can you please clarify your question? Which products do you mean--the 3D printers or what they're printing? And what do you mean by "working well in the market"?

Cadman-LT, I know the CNC tolerance-equivalence may be hard to believe, but this technology is going through rapid changes right now--kind of like sped up evolution--in the effort to make it feasible for production. The pace of change has changed.

Anne, i am really impressed with all the above mentioned and manufactured productss but i just wanted to know whether these products are in working as well in the market or not .

Cadman, if these printers become offordable then there will be no issues in making or printing customize products for ourselves and to gift our loved ones as well.

Ann, thats really great and all the slide shows has fascinated me i really liked the idea of printing car dashboards with 3d printer plus the colour gun was an awsome idea  and those colourfull cup saucers were  the most cute one .I am really hoping and waiting to see  how these 3d systems will change the printing world .

The good thing about either one is, you could make parts that don't even exist. To go from whatever fitting to whatever other fitting. One part, no adapters.

I wish I would have had one of these small home 3D printers the other day. My pipes busted and I needed some small PVC fittings. I drove all over trying to find them. Sure would have been nice to just stay at home and warm, download the file and print it out. Or even better, for local stores to have a printer and they can make you whatever fitting you need. Ahhhhh, one day.

NASA's MAVEN spacecraft has entered Mars' atmosphere, carrying instruments to help Earthlings figure out what happened to it. Launched last November, the spacecraft arrived at the red planet right on time after a journey of 442 millionmiles.
More bioplastic materials have entered the 3D-printable filament fray. These PLA formulations reinforced with wood or bamboo fibers will debut at the October Composites Europe show in Germany.
Airbus Defence and Space has 3D printed titanium brackets for communications satellites. The redesigned, one-piece 3D-printed brackets have better thermal resistance than conventionally manufactured parts, can be produced faster, cost 20% less, and save about 1 kg of weight per satellite.
At IMTS last week, Stratasys introduced two new multi-materials PolyJet 3D printers, plus a new UV-resistant material for its FDM production 3D printers. They can be used in making jigs and fixtures, as well as prototypes and small runs of production parts.
GE Aviation not only plans to use 3D printing to mass-produce metal parts for its LEAP jet engine, but it's also developing a separate technology for 3D-printing metal parts used in its other engines.
