Cadman-LT, no, I don't have a LEAP. Why do you ask?

Cadman-LT, you said, "Making a part, or engineering one for that matter is not like making a copy at the copy machine. It's just not the same thing." My point is, that yes it's now very similar with this new Zeus multi-functional machine, in the sense that you can now copy an object like you can copy a piece of paper. I find that amazing. Obviously, it's a different process from designing a part.

Ann, did you get a LEAP? I was wondering how they were. Ever have one of those weeks where everything goes totally wrong? I'm living that week and it's only Tueesday...hehe

That is neat that you can do that though!

Ann, I never said that that wasn't possible. I was talking about making designs, not copying an object. I was just saying this isn't the same as copying a piece of paper. It is if you copy an object I suppose, but I was referring to sending in designs.

Cadman-LT, making a copy with the press of one button--a 3D copy of a 3D object--is in fact now possible. See this story today:

Ann, I'm sorry. I am trying to wrap my head around why they would do this...and I can't. lol

I could see opening a little place.....and doing this...ahh I think they already exist.

I do see one up-side. We might see some designing that is out of the box. I can see that....but for UPS to do this I think is ridiculous.

You'll have kids, and people that have no sense sending you designs that aren't possible. I just have concerns.

3D printing is now adding value to manufacturers at all steps along the business value chain. Come find out how at a talk by John Jaddou at next month's Embedded Systems Conference in Minneapolis.
These new 3D-printing technologies and printers include some that are truly boundary-breaking: a sophisticated new sub-$10,000, 10-plus materials bioprinter, the first industrial-strength silicone 3D-printing service, and a clever twist on 3D printing and thermoforming for making high-quality realistic models.
A team of researchers at Stanford University and IBM Research have developed a catalyst that could quickly and inexpensively generate biodegradable plastics derived from renewable materials.
Using simulation to guide the drafting process can speed up the design and production of 3D-printed nanostructures, reduce errors, and even make it possible to scale up the structures. Oak Ridge National Laboratory has developed a model that does this.
These new plastics are all aimed at cars, electronics and electrical components, plus medical devices, medical tool sterilization, and cleaning.
